Originally hailing from the charming Canadian city Niagara Falls, MayFall is a brand new musical collective that have already left their mark with their debut single ‘Fly Well’. Made up of seasoned musicians from some of the region’s established acts, Stereo Sunrise, The Black Flies and Marble Weed, this band has come together to not only form a band, but a band with a sound you haven’t heard before.

Lead by Justin Koetsier’s emotive vocals and with the skillful guitar of Piero Montemurro and Steve Doucet, the rhythm section of Jay Forhan on bass, MayFall’s “Fly Well” is a wonderful display of what this lot can do. But, as with all good things, it’s produced by Dean Malton at Groundloop Studios in Ontario, blending a classic rock, indie, and pop element to create a soulful, sunset tinged soundscape that envelopes you like a warm, laid back feeling from the very first soft, breezy guitar pluck and shimmering cymbals. The drums and bass join in on the fray, but Koetsier’s superb vocal delivery glides beautifully atop a mellow arrangement that lands the track. The lush backing harmonies add depth and richness to what is already captivating melodies.

The lyric of “Fly Well” is a real bittersweet tale of traveling for work and wishing you were home. The words are perfectly introspective while the delicate guitar work and the gentle rhythmic sway that carries the song forward is as perfect a match as you could hope for. With “Fly Well,” MayFall have done an impressive job of showcasing their ability to craft some very existential, very emotionally resonant country tinged music, and it’s a stunning showcase of MayFall at their finest. A truly memorable debut single, which blends seamlessly into a truly memorable band whose individual talents have formed in seamless union. If you’re a fan of timeless, heartfelt songwriting, this incredible introduction to MayFall will tap into your heart in a way you will find hard to forget.
