Cat Cork’s new single ‘Promise Me’ presents a different side of Cat Cork, marking a departure from the darker tones we have come to expect from Woy Woy artist. It is different in a pleasantly real way; as someone who has seen Cat’s growth, it is shocking.I find it the most captivating how Cat is able to deliver such a heavy potential theme and simultaneously turn it into a rather lighthearted narrative. The way in which the song recognizes the sacrifices we make in order to be with someone else is rather visceral, but somehow the theme isn’t gloomy, instead, the song manages to remain optimistic over such a deep theme.

The song itself unravels as a bittersweet love story and goes through the intricacies of choosing to work towards a relationship instead of one’s own goals. Pairing the home studio in Australia with a myriad of artist perspective across the world culminates in the juxtaposition Cat’s narrative artistry. Cat’s robust sound is enriched even further with the cello work from Ben Trigg and bass lines from Pablo Arruda, enhancing the story even further. The percussion work from sincere Horacio Paris and Joao Paulo Drumond also worked amicably together to lead a subtle forward motion without derailing the tender core of the ballad.

The super 8 music video provided a unique dimension into the story with its distinct style which worked wonders alongside the narrative of the song. All of them built together creating a visual poem capturing the sense of timelessness of the song’s message, all the while enhancing the songs emotional response. What sets apart Promise Me is its perspective absolutely recommend sense of realism, permeated with hope. In my opinion, this is Cat’s most matured narrative, his previous works, he heavily utilized shadow narrative whereas, in his latest work, warms and light work embrace his overall narrative
