To start, I have to admit, the Swedish rock duo Talk in Vain absolutely came to demolish with their new single “Distant Land”. From the beginning, I want to mention that this genre-defining, destructive song I adore was released by songwriter Magnus Hellman and vocalist Jessica Lindman. If you appreciate the dips and dives of bigger, noisier rock, then you will love this track. It single handedly brought me back to my favorite era and has enough bass to land nuclear bombs right at the center of a city.

I was in for a wild song, without a doubt. When I heard the initial, gigantic riffs, the track immediately sunk its claws into me through its Raw intensity. The guitars don’t mindlessly shred. Rather, the riffs are hard and groovy, so you can’t help but forcefully bop your head along with the music. The rhythms pummel and plod with the weight of a Mack truck speeding down the highway. Magnus Hellman’s compelling production skillfully blends raw energy with polished sound, creating a dynamic atmosphere that amplifies the intensity of “Distant Land.”

This is rock music of the headcrushing variety. The catchy riffs are equally matched by Jessica Lindmans powerful vocals which are what truly make “Distant Land” exceptional. Her melancholy and chaotic voice elegantly soars along the top, along with everything else. At one moment she can unleash a gale force roar and at the next, soothe you with her emotionally charged, melodic vocals.

The combination is intoxicating and makes it impossible to forget. Just like the hook that sticks like glue.Talk in Vain manages to integrate perfectly reckless abandon with wild melodies. This piece personally reminds me of my idols where I can blast these life affirming anthems at deafening volumes. As someone who unveils frills and prefers heavy rock and roll, I’m in total awe. If you’ve been looking for a new obsession to idolize, Talk in Vain perfectly fits the bill. “Distant Land” is the shot of adrenaline that the modern rock scene needs. I’m convinced after spinning this molten chunk of sonic napalm on a loop, “Distant Land” is my anthem.
