There are those times when you find a song that just takes you to another world in the first few notes of the song, and this is certainly the case with this song, the first notes of the vibrating analog synthesizer take you to another world. This London based project headed by electronic producer Chris Allinson has created something that feels vintage yet ageless- like it has discovered a perfectly preserved piece of classic Ibiza culture.

Cassy is a guest vocalist, and it brings in this dreamy, mellow quality that fits absolutely with the luxurious electronic soundscapes. Her vocals have a free-flowing quality like fine evening air that she floats over the song. It is not urgent, there is no need to attract attention with its volume or trickiness, it is but this slight request to move along the flow of music.

The implementation of vintage analog synths that were recorded in Cactus Studios produces this rich, warm vibe which digital production is not able to capture as easily. The glistening synths create these epic soundscapes that truly give a sense of coastal living and you can almost feel the sea breeze as well as see the famous Ibiza sunsets that inspired the song.

The influences are not ashamed but not derivative either The Bonobo parallels are easy to quickly draw, as are the associations to classic Cafae Del Mar compilations. This fits well in that tradition of chill music with an atmosphere of chill without simply reprising old tropes.

I am impressed by the feeling of yearning that is throughout the song-that feeling of wanting more than a simple relaxation music. The very title gives the impression of remoteness and longing, which is an underlying current to the apparent serenity. My Friend Lives on the Coast works as background music during relaxing time and as concentrated listening for people that love the more reflective side to electronic music. It is that type of song that makes you want to schedule a vacation at a sunny and oceanic destination.
