Consequential has produced something truly special with Cravin’- a track that manages to embrace everything that is great about liquid drum and bass whilst exploring beyond the boundaries with the influences of trance and dub. Originally from Bury St. Edmunds, this gifted musician has produced a slice of electronic music that is both refined and at the same time easy to get into.

The first thing that hits me about Cravin’ is that it is very versatile. Creative brief Consequential was to develop something that you could move to, work to, or drive to and they have certainly achieved that. The liquid funk style is super pretty and flowy and it fits everything you are doing. Whether you are pushing through work or driving to the highway this song is the ideal accompaniment.

The quality of production is spotless–shiny but not sterile The atmospheric, airy synths give the track a rich soundscape, which is expansive and immersive, and the clean breaks ensure that the song maintains that all-important drum and bass core. The quick vocal sounds give the song an extra dynamism without overpowering the flow of the song.

I enjoy the organic details that Consequential has added to the electronic construct, especially that delicious sample of their dog in action with a tennis ball. These unpredictable moments make Cravin’ what it is and it does not feel too sterile and robotic, as there is a beating heart of a human (and a canine) behind all this technological magic.

As the first release on WoodysWorldRecords NZ, Cravin’ by Consequential is an impressive argument in favour of the future of this producer. The song is technically accomplished, yet emotionally involving in a very rare combination. This is electronic music that brightens up your day and your mood- which is exactly what the artist wanted to do.
