With a song that undergoes a complete change of heartbreak into heartbreak power, RISE have provided something truly refreshing with Lost For Words. This four-member ensemble has the correct formula on how to create melodic rock that strikes hard but is also accessible enough to catch on in an oversaturated rock scene.

What catches your attention at the first look is the sheer energy. Since the very first bars, the song is propelled by unstoppable force, with the perfectly clean drumming of Alex Mahoney that leaves no chance to feel not the beat. Squeezing the production to Rob Whiteley and Paul Kinley at Whitewood Studios, the achievement is a smooth amalgamation of textures, so that the volume of synths and guitar bounce off each other, and the sound all too recognisable as RISE.

The vocals by Sam Kinley (that are performed as stayMellow) demonstrate the sense of urgency and energy of 90s rock vocalists and retain modernity at the same time. His performance is full of sincerity and emotion, especially when considering the high tempo of this song. Multi-layered vocal harmonies also bring incredible depth, which reveals some of his best work so far.

The guitar playing of Brian Petch also should be singled out–it is bright and detailed and has prominent solo passages that bring the song to a higher level. The interaction of his electric guitar with the keyboards brings out an extremely deep and rich soundscape that is never overloaded.

Lyrically, the song Lost For Words addresses the outrage of an unwelcome breakup in an uplifting manner. The song takes a different turn as opposed to dwelling in rejection but acceptance and moving on- changing sadness to determination. It is an accessible story that is presented with catchy beats and catchy tunes that remain in your head even after you hear the last chord.

In the same way as their history of releases with high energy, RISE has made another strong addition to their catalogue. Lost For Words will make you know they are a band worth watching them because they are both melodically sensible and rock authentic.
