There’s a way COSMIC SOULS do it, and they never raise their voice. My Room is the type of song you listen to gradually. It doesn’t try to capture you in the first 5 seconds. It waits, and it’s the waiting that makes it worth hearing.

This is a band that has definitely done things their own way. No one pushing them in the direction of whatever is in fashion. The music is influenced by that independence. People can be heard thinking out of their mouths what they wanted to say.

The approach is fair from the get-go. There is nothing pretentious or ostentatious about it. It’s as if the three of them are so much on the same page that they leave room in the music, and that feeling is carried out in every bar. Later in the song it opens up without getting louder or more forceful. It occurs emotionally. The instruments almost seem to be leaning in at the right time, and the singing has a quality of lived in rather than performed for an audience.

That’s a song that’s quite simple, which is a good thing. Nothing gets in each other’s way for effect. All parts are worth their weight and as such the emotional impact of the song is never forced, pushed or thrust upon you. At the end, it’s almost hushed. A small change, but a big change in the mood of the song, a softer song than it started.

When you listen to “My Room”, it’s like sitting down in somebody’s head for a few minutes. It’s as though people wrote for people who feel a little out of things, and who found the plainest way to say something true, without losing any of the depth. This is no place for COSMIC SOULS to follow what is in fashion. They created this song on their own and it reflects that. This is music that stays with you, long after you have finished listening.
