Other times music is just to make you smile and Deltiimo and Jodie Vinall with Ice Cream Buns is just that unabashed moment of joy. The team-up between the UK electronic artist and Portsmouth vocalist produces something that simply cannot be overlooked; a technicolor explosion of EDM energy enveloping an absolutely entrancing performance by Vinall.

The vocals of Jodie Vinall are the undoubted star of the show. She delivers in a sultry, smooth way on the verses and a teasing way on the chorus, and her versatility keeps you interested all through. It is something authentically catchy in her voice, it is effervescent, but not sugary, confident, but not conceited. You can listen to her path to this space-age pop fantasy and it is truly motivational.

The production is a perfect accompaniment to the vocals, with a kaleidoscopic soundscape of sparkling synths and consistent EDM beats that are retro-futuristic, and yet also old fashioned and fun. Deltiimo has created something that seems to be pure escapism with light-hearted themes and innuendo that never goes over the point where you would avoid listening to it in mixed company.

The thing that catches my eye the most about the Ice Cream Buns is that it is authentic. In spite of the surreal staging and the fairy-tale visuals, there is something sincere about the performance of Vinall. The fact that she is an ADHD advocate, plus-size performer, and a loving mother gives her more relatability that shines through the glossy production.

Ice Cream Buns is a clear indication that not every music has to be serious and serious music does not necessarily have to be good. This is the kind of colorful escapism that we all require, especially in a world that tends to be heavy.
