Raw, powerful sonic manifestation of resilience and hope when life gets so dark, “Over” is Clearfall’s debut single. The progressive metal/rock outfit has come out with a mission that goes beyond the musical bounds, advocating for mental health awareness, trauma recovery, and fighting the continuing battle against addiction, from the very first notes that “Over” entangles you on a tapestry of intricate layers of tones and assorted tones, well worked to emulate the intricacies of the human brain.
Though their eclectic influences span from TesseracT and Sleep Token right down to the iconic TOOL, there’s something so unique to the sonic combination of progressive metal and rock elements that they utilise in “Over,” and what really separates this song from all the others is the raw emotional intensity that permeates not only the song but everything that surrounds it. Brad is a standout with his powerful delivery, his voice covering the weight of personal loss and struggle, but with an unyielding will to overcome. The lyrics, based on his experiences, strike close to home, acting as an inspiration for those forced to battle their mental health themselves.
“Over” was recorded in a studio in Leeds away from the city distractions, and marks unmistakable hallmark of a band pouring the entire of their collective souls in to their craft. But the creative process itself seemed to create a vulnerable, honest space in which Clearfall could take their very message and put it out into the world, causing “Over” not only to be an incredible debut statement, but also to become a movement that crosses beyond music. The art woven into their very being, destigmatizing of mental health struggles and opening up about these things are at the core of what makes Clearfall’s “Over” a crucial step in making our world a more compassionate, understanding one in a world often in the shadows of darkness, this release is a symbol of hope and that in our darkest of times, resilience, and strength will prevail.
