“Welcome to the Club” from Olive Dares the Darkness brought a whirlwind of nostalgia as well as a sense of intensity the moment I pressed play. The first riffs reminded me of the beats from the early 2000s. Melodic metalcore is what they would be referred to as. This type of aggressive yet soaring melodious metal is what made me fall in love with this genre as a teenager.
Olive Dares the Darkness had me hooked from the instant I heard the shattering opening chords. The guitar work is decidedly euphoric. With the guitar alone, blistering pieces of melody and bonebreaking headbanging riffs are expertly fused together. At the moment where introspection seems to pair with a striking lull, the blazing vocals and tympanic beats detonate and make a big boom, which increases one’s heart rate.
A true highlight is none other than the vocals, which are striking in their rawness and deceptively truthful, while the beat hits right at you as you sway and lose all consciousness to it. At one moment, the singer serves tunes that shall give you chills and then, she screeches out stygian roars that’ll shake you to your core. Olive Dares the Darkness does not only set out to produce an aggressive shriek, but rather, they endeavor to give stunning and robust voice to the battles that everyone faces.
The collaboration with The Welcoming on this remix is pure genius, giving this deep feeling an even stronger punch. The ominous, ethereal accents give a sense of weight that completely embodies you. The voice paints powerful imagery of universal pain while the music surrounds you like a thick blanket of fog that doesn’t release you from its soothing embrace.“Welcome to the Club” is a blend of sadness and aggression served as a motivational song. With an unfiltered experience of emotion, this song along with metal music soothes the soul, boiling down to a form of scream therapy. It puts its hooks into you and gets you addicted from the very first spin. Why I adore metal so deeply is the very essence that Olive Dares the Darkness has managed to capture, which is deeply beautiful both musically and spiritually. A modern masterpiece, indeed.
