Melbourne artist Ben Cripps is bringing the funk with his new project CRIPPTIC. With his first single “Muffin Pincher” gaining traction on the internet, Cripps is set to become Australia’s leading funk aficionado – turn up the volume and get ready for the dance-off of your life with no words needed.
Ben Cripps, the session bassist who has played with some of the biggest names in the industry, is ready to take the world by storm with his new band CRIPPTIC and their first single “Muffin Pincher”. Right from the bass groove of the low end funk, Cripps gets you hooked with his smooth but powerful finger drumming to the beat. Keyboards shimmer on top of the base he creates, seducing one into the beat.
Cripps shows off all of his musical abilities here, switching from bass, swirling guitars, and expressive synths with great skill. One can easily see how working with musicians such as Smokey Robinson helped him to hone his intricate understanding of melody, rhythm and pacing within an instrumental context. Track is a clinic in allowing various aspects to come to the fore without cluttering the mix.
The reason why “Muffin Pincher” is so engaging is that all the components are tightly interconnected and function smoothly and randomly at the same time. It is quite unpredictable as to where the excursion will lead you next, relying solely on the music being played. It is the sort of mind-blowing, body-moving tour de force that could well give rise to a new full-blown genre all of its own. A moment that cannot be lost.
