I was impressed by the amazing music style of Autorub’s latest single The Falling (432Hz). As soon as I hit play, I immediately picked on one thing about the music that I have never heard before, there is an orangey feel to the guitar attitudes. The guitar tones are warm, vintage and fresh at the same time, like the strings are radiating heat waves through the speakers, making the sonic texture feel tangible, like you can reach out and touch it.
Afterwards, I read in the description that they actually recorded in 432Hz tuning, and that’s why I felt so satisfied listening. Believe me, it changes something you literally feel in your hands, and the man standing behind Autorub is Michael Corn, and if the name rings a bell, then you know his previous experience, working for Sammy on Geffen Records and Heydevils. One thing that did interest me more was his use of vintage synths with modern rock inputs, it’s like somebody woke up one morning and saw that there’s a gap between using old school synths and raw rock inputs and just touching the input in the middle and coming out with something that doesn’t sound forced at all.
The fact that this track feels real makes it what more. Like most bands, you can hear influences from other bands like Weezers or Foo Fighters, but Autorub are different. I couldn’t help but replay the bridge section transitioning into this dark interlude. Every time I listen to ‘The Falling’ I find something that I didn’t notice the last time, like the synth, or the character of every instrument. Autorub is here for those who are avid for rock music that is freeing itself from the usual patterns without forgetting where it came from. With Autorub continuing to push creative boundaries with their signature sound, “The Falling (432Hz)” is a mind expanding artistic statement that will linger long after the final transcendent notes dissipate.
