It is so understandable to have that sinking feeling as the weekend is over and the real world knocks on the door. On their newest recording, Sunday Bummer, Creative Vibrations has perfectly captured this universal phenomenon and created a multi-dimensional masterpiece that turns the post-weekend blues into an interesting musical narrative.

The first thing that will come to mind with this Bend, Oregon project is the craftsmanship that was involved. The inspiration of Pete Sahaidachny as songwriter, singer and producer appears on every well-designed track. His voice sounds like he has experience behind it through the years of music writing over 25 years, but the voice is accessible enough to entice you and not repel.

The album has the power of collaboration. The drums by Richard Turgeon and the bass by Wesley Kelley make a very powerful rhythm section which adds groove and emotional support. The album has a smooth but natural sound because Jeffrey Mallow did the mixing and mastering process remotely in Spain. The fact there is the scoring of Devin Farney gives the album a cinematic touch which enhances the whole listening experience.

The uniqueness of “Sunday Bummer” is that it takes the traditional rock approach to music and mixes it with progressive rock and lounge flavours. Guitar playing is creative and features interesting solos and riffs, without being self-indulgent, and the different melodies provide excellent hooks that are difficult to forget once the music is over. The manufacturing quality enables each instrument to breathe and at the same time keeps the album soundscapes coherent throughout.

The outlook on life expressed by Pete in the words that “you do not need art to survive but you need it to live” is spread throughout all tracks. This is not merely music that deals with the banal emotions, this is something that works to make the good in the little moments of fear we all live through. The album takes something as mundane as Sunday night anxiety and makes it absolutely deep and broadly touching.”Sunday Bummer” is true art that appeals to the soul.
