Songs just come and play in background and then there are songs that come and take you by the throat and ask you to listen to it. LCD by Mosh Pit is unquestionably in the latter camp, and offers a sonic battering that is cathartic yet confrontational in nature.

With the initial sharp guitar chord it is easy to tell that this is not music to the faint hearted. Just listen and you will understand that what the Tel Aviv based band has created is truly off-putting in the most positive sense of the word a song that unleashes primal dejection into unleashed alternative rock power. Perhaps the most outstanding are the vocals which alternate between snarling aggressiveness and desperate pleading, a sentiment which makes your skin creep when you realize it is coming out of the mouth of a unique artist.

The most interesting aspect of the song is that it addresses this awkward reality of the contemporary worship culture. It does not matter whether we are blindly obeying religious dogma, cultural norms, or digital algorithms, the song reveals the psychological cost of blind obedience. Even the title The LCD which refers to the Lowest Common Denominator is a vicious metaphor of how we tend to lower ourselves to suit systems that are not beneficial to us.

It is purposefully abrasive, and the use of pulsating drums and an industrial-tinged production style makes the whole thing sound like a controlled madness. All of the sounds are deliberately rough, which is a perfect representation of the message of the song. The guitars are not played, they are assaulted and build a wall of sound that resembles the inner battle that the lyrics address.

It is music that has to be experienced and not only listened to. Mosh Pit has managed to make something that hits an visceral level and makes you think on that common experience of having to know that you have been a slave to something that is not worthy of your commitment. It is uncomfortable, it is honest, it is most definitely necessary. LCD is a strong statement by a band that is not afraid to present the tough truths in a tough sound.
