It is always something truly exciting when you see raw talent coming out of the blue, and The Radio Addicts can bring just that kind of excitement with their song called Scroll My Life Away. The thing is that this song is quite impressive not only because of its contagious vibe but also the fact that it was created by a group of youngsters that are not even in their teens yet but have managed to nail the mood of the digital addiction of modern society with a lot of maturity.

The voice of Luke grabs your attention at the very first note, and it is so enthusiastic, you can hardly resist it. He is only 14 years old, yet his lines about phone addiction are the ones that can be described as real because he experienced it himself. His playing has a touch of punk snarl a la early Oasis, yet with an exuberance of youth that is all his own. The lead guitar of Daniel is a perfect accompaniment, the melodic lines that he plays stick in your head long after the song has been played.

Special mention has to be made of the rhythm section, with Vincent on drums being impressively advanced given his age, and propelling the song along with a punk-inspired urgency that does not seem at all artificial. The bass lines of Jonathan are a strong foundation which lets the other elements to be presented and it shows that age is just a number when speaking of musical chemistry.

What impresses me most about Scroll My Life Away is the way it tackles very serious themes and at the same time has an irrepressibly positive attitude. The song addresses our phone-addiction as a society in a non-preachy or cynical way, and it has the effect of creating a fun anthem that recognizes the issue, but also celebrates the bond that has been created with the people we love most.

The Radio Addicts have come up with a very good piece of work here, a song that directly addresses their generation but at the same time is not alien to older people as well. This is the music that makes us remember why we have fallen in love with rock and roll in the first place.
