Some songs are instant hits and I believe that War Killer does just that. From the beginning there is this kind of unrefined energy that is continually moving forward. It is loud and urgent, but not faux. There’s a reason for this. There are many songs that attempt to be meaningful, perhaps, but this one does feel like it’s from a real place.

I think I’ll remember Jason Mckee’s voice best. It has a weight to it. It is clear that this is his own song and not just another song that he recorded. The tone of his singing does not sound refined, even or polished. It feels direct. Quite uncomfortable at times, but in a good way. The guitars carry the momentum here with this sort of grit. The drums and bass remain tight all the way down and never let go. I liked that there’s no such thing as too clean of a sound. The rough production works better with the song in my opinion. It would be smoother if it were easier to say.

When the chorus starts, it feels like you just want to shout along to it after the first or second time. It’s not like it’s personal, it feels shared. That’s what Reetoxa does, without being too planned, or too perfect. The song itself is given extra weight because of the fact that Jason served 10 years in the navy. The track is in that history the whole time. The writing is like someone writing about things that they actually experienced, rather than sounding tough.
