There are some songs which sound like they were ripped from a moment and never tidied up after. Fight is just that. It is raw and spontaneous, and it’s something you can’t fake. Right from the opening riff it pulls you in, and the tension doesn’t let up throughout. This is why it’s so interesting.

The guitars are fuzz-heavy and abrasive, in the most satisfying way. The music is played on vintage fuzz pedals made out of old iron and on an Orange amplifier, which is evident in every note. The sound is dense and rough and fits perfectly with the mood of the song. It makes you think of garage rock done with a sense of conviction and not style. The vocals are all over the top, and with this tired, contained sound that’s so lived in. No showy performance here. It just sounds like someone’s working through something real, it’s just honest. That authenticity is scarce and it takes the song far.

What’s interesting about Fight is how it was created. The musicians were professional musicians that Roman had never played with before and he walked into the studio and they recorded the whole thing in three takes in one session. The spontaneity is evident. The music is unpredictable and electric; it’s not something that can be recorded and rehearsed. This song has been with Roman for about 10 years, and was composed during his time in St. Petersburg. It is still so alive, it says it all about the quality of the writing. A truly great song.
