MILYAM is a solo artist and a sincere and calm singer. I’m immediately captivated by her song Dream from the first few seconds. As it plays, I listen more intently. It’s as if you are being invited into someone’s private space to share something personal with them.
She is releasing her music under her own name “MILYAM EMPIRE” and she retains full ownership of her music. I love that she is able to create music her own way. There’s no pressure and nothing is hurried or done for the sake of others. She’s pretty sure what she wants to say and I like the way she shares her thoughts.
One of the first things I see is the deep bass. Remains stable as small percussion noises circulate around it. After her soft, high voice comes in. I like the difference between the deep bass and her gentle singing. They fit together nicely and provide ample room for the music. “Dream” is a blend of Art Rap, dark R&B and music that evokes movie scores. It’s quiet like a scene just before something happens. MILYAM sings softly yet with confidence. I feel each line carefully sung and the warm sound of her voice lingers. It is appropriate for quiet times.
The lyrics are personal and open which is how I connect with this song. I notice some tension, then a softer feeling, followed by a sense of calm. The beat is steady and I am nodding my head. At the end I feel a little lighter. I didn’t know how much the song would impact me. MILYAM has already gained attention, with plays on Amazing Radio and a BBC Introducing listen on 1Xtra. Listening to “Dream” I see why everyone is interested in her music. I’m always coming back to this song and I believe some of those who like thoughtful music with a moody vibe will be fond of it too. I suggest using headphones to listen.
