There are songs out there that just have a swing to them that you can’t help but get into. Decisions is a track of that sort. It’s immediately apparent when you start the track that there’s the groove in you, and it never leaves. It’s a song that will make you feel good without you realizing it. The track pulls you in naturally and feels warm, smooth, and easy to enjoy from start to finish.

The guitar playing is great. The verses have a melancholy arpeggio that adds an emotional dimension to the song, without making the song’s overall tone more somber. The bass and drums perfectly underpin it all, purposeful and solid without overpowering it. It all just fits in very naturally. The vocals are warm and very heartfelt. It has a raw quality which is appropriate for the subject. The song is about the difference between what we can control and what we can’t, and it’s delivered in a very real way. It doesn’t sound over-thought. It just feels real.

The thing that you’re struck by is how easy it goes. The changes of rhythm are not too clever, and the harmonies build in such a way that the whole piece has a real emotional arc. When it’s over you feel like you have been somewhere. It’s been 20 years since the Plastic Pals started and Decisions demonstrates why they are still worth watching. The songwriting is confident and easy to listen to – it’s just something that comes with experience. A very fun band that has a clear passion for music.
