Fools Arcade have released a song titled Festival In A Bar and it made me smile from the first second. The drums and guitar burst through the door like a friend. As soon as you know it, your foot is tapping and your head is nodding. It’s just pure fun.
The people who made Fools Arcade are from Leeds. The rest of the band consists of Adam Smith on vocals and Thom Wilding, Ryan Burke, Joe Priestley and Tom Hinchcliffe on guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, respectively. They love the first places bands have the opportunity to play, and this song is a thank you song to those grassroots rooms. There’s that love in it! Adam’s voice has a cheeky grin to it. He’s the kind of guy that makes everyone at the table laugh, and somehow gets the whole room singing. I love the ease with which he sounds. Nothing feels forced. It simply sounds like a great deal of fun.
The guitars roar out a happy shout, the drums keep things moving. The bass is underneath and provides the support. I like the chorus the best. It’s an emotional feeling that makes you want to join in, arms around a stranger. I wanted to play it again just to get back to that bit! Let’s cheer for Ryan, Thom, Joe and Tom as well. They sound tight and happy together, it feels like they have been playing together for a long time. Everyone seems to know what to do. It imparts a nice easy feel to the song.
The middle section is again lighthearted. The band eases back a few steps and then takes a step forward with renewed vigor. It’s that time of night when everyone is not thinking about anything but having fun. When you get out of that bit you feel a little lighter. Fools Arcade’s Festival In A Bar is a present to anyone who enjoys a night of good music and good people. It reminds you of the meaning of those cosy little rooms and friendly faces. Adam and the band have created something you’ll want to hear over and over. Hang it up with your friends and have fun!
